A comprehensive driving evaluation is recommended when there has been a change in medical status, physical ability, or cognitive/visual function that may impact safe driving. The goal is to assess your ability to drive safely and maintain independence.

This evaluation includes both a clinical assessment of driving related skills and a behind-the-wheel assessment.

Clinical Assessment of Driving Related Skills: 

Evaluates vision, cognition, reaction time, strength, coordination, and other skills needed for driving. If you use a wheelchair or assistive device, we also assess your ability to safely enter, exit, and manage equipment within a vehicle.

Behind-the-Wheel Assessment: 

Conducted in your driving environment to evaluate real-world driving skills such as lane positioning, following distance, stopping time, lane change, and general rules of the road. Following the evaluation, you will receive clear recommendations regarding driving safety, need for further training, or adaptive equipment.
